This one isn’t a challenge, I just want to know ONE SPECIFIC vehicle you honestly plan to own no matter the time it takes. The big difference in this question than the usual “dream garage” question is that when you love something and truly plan to own it, you become a semi-fanatic on that particular generation of vehicle. I’ll give you an example of a car I absolutely know I’m going to own one day, regardless of what ever better cars, versions, or values are available.
Simply put, a 2013 Jaguar XJL Supersport. You may wonder about a 2012 XJL Supersport? No. How about a 2013 Jaguar XJ-SS on the shorter wheelbase? No. How about the much more powerful and equally fuel efficient 2014 XJR LWB. Nope! My heart is set on the 2013 Jaguar XJL SS. Whether I’m 30 or 67, whether I buy a 2026 XJL SVR Sport-Hybrid Queens Centennial Edition (Ian Callum Signature) , Im going to buy a 2013 XJL Supersport regardless at some point.
One key reason is that the 2013 model year was the last iteration of the Supersport since it was replaced by the more powerful and technical XJR. The 2013 car received the 8-speed transmission and dropped about 130lbs with the change. This is one of the few cases where I don’t care about the weight reduction, it’s that gear box paired to that particular 510hp V8 engine (plus slight suspension updates that of course entailed) which I need in my life with this model. Also the infotainment was updated and I believe the Meridian Sound System became available.
It’s also less flashy compared to the XJR and all the newer Jaguar styling changes. Hardest part is tracking down all those things and still having the purple liner, which must be optional since I have yet to see it in the flesh in any XJ (not that I’ve been in too many).
But it will probably be under $40k by the time I can even consider the option, if not much lower. With everyone getting way from sedans and the eventual gas price increase, that Jag should be mine for the taking! Guffaw I say ole Chap! Guffawahahaha!!!
God Save the Roads from Me
‘Night Oppo! I’m heading off.

E63 wagon. I will have one, do or die

A 911 SC, at some point in my life I’m going to DD one of these.

I don’t have that car anymore. I used to have a bunch, but it just isn’t in the cards. I’ll just have another cheap commuter car, because that’s the smart choice with money. So, maybe the current gen Civic in a few years?

E39 M5. It may cost a fortune to keep going but man, £7,000 for 400HP V8 Manual Super Saloon is a temptation that will take me one day.

2003 ZR-2. My wife made me get rid of my ‘02 S-10 ZQ8 when we had kids, and I’ve always planned to get another S-10. But this time around, Since it’ll be a toy I’d rather have the off-road special edition than the street special edition. Still some of my favorite factory wheels ever. And ‘03 because that was the final year.
If we’re talking recent cars that will hopefully depreciate to affordability at some point, I have my eye on that rediculous Hyper Blue WRX STi.

991 911 Turbo...because I have a thing for fast beetles

F-Type V6S Coupe in British Racing Green. Fingers crossed depreciation has hit these REALLY hard by the time I hit my mid-life crisis and that they don’t appreciate.
It HAS to be this exact colour too, no substitutes.

I'd have to say E46 M3 Convertible, Supra Targa, or RX7

I blew my load early in my mid 20's by getting the Elise, classic Mini, and Viper GTS. Seriously, those were my attainable dream cars - the cars I was fascinated with for over a decade (jr high to young adulthood). Now I have no clue what to do because the only other dream car I really really really want is a Countach and I’m doubting that will ever happen.
Getting rid of the Viper soon and have no clue what to replace it with. I test drove an Outback the other day. I have the idea to get a Volvo 1800es but not sure if it’s really what I want or not.

I want an R32 Skyline GTS-T Type M with a manual. I don’t care that it’s not a GT-R. (I can just build the RB20 and I do NOT want to deal with Super HICAS.) I don’t care whether it’s a 2-door or a 4-door. I don’t care what color. I just want one.

I will own a 1983 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 before I die.
...coincidentally, it'll also probably be cause of death....

A Tangerine Orange XV Crosstrek looking something like this. Where I live there are plenty of mild off road trails that a Crossteck could easily take.

Testarossa / 512TR. Prices have run away in the past 2 years, but someday I will have the last flat-12 laugh!!

sbc 302, muncie 4spd, real talk........ put together, and looking for a chevy 2 to put them in. 62/3/4. i had been looking for two or three years at the time. i had found a bunch(this is all pre-craigslist). however, i couldnt touch a beat shell. all the shells had been run down the side of. the floorpans were swiss cheesed, glass shot out. they were ROUGH. couldnt touch a broken shell for less than $1500, that needed everything. three years of this. then i discovered vw bugs. lighter. i could get whole cars minus engine and transaxle for around $50-$100 cash. so i rounded up over time 6 of em, and gutted them.i built in the meantime a frame for it from and s10. built a 4 link rear end for it, narrowed 9 inch rearend tucks 295 50 15 tires under the stock fenders. has about 1 foot of motor setback . but its not done.....................still need to build frame to body mounts, and floor. and finish up the pedals. but real talk. its a v8 4spd bug that weighs 2300. REAL talk

There are several on that list, but the most relevant is this:
I fell in love with the SVX back in 11th grade, when I saw one on a local used lot that I passed by frequently. That was back in 2011.
I believe I’ll finally be in a position to own one in about a year (I’m starting to get excited). My aim is to get either any early model in any trim (1992-1993), or a later model LSi (1994-1997). As for the color, I’d love a two-tone, but I would go for any color as long as the car was in reasonably good shape.
Recently, I’ve been lusting after this color combination Swiss Ruby Mica with the black roof and trunk (not available in the US).

A Euro E28 535i/5, with the red interior. Exterior colour doesn’t matter as much.

Im trying to justify this now. Michigan sucks with snow/potholes so I think my plan is to get the cheapest/lowest mileage one I can afford. Salvage title or not. Im going to kill its value with the miles I put on anyways. Getting one cheap means I can afford to keep my Crossfire as a winter beater.
(I’ll start test driving cars I like this summer)

Classic Alfa? You got my other attainable dream cars covered and those don't depreciate anymore either!

E46 M3 Phoenix Yellow
Yes, it's the weird color but that's the point. It's absurd and wonderful, I just wish the E39 M5 came in a crazy color to go with it.

I’ve always seen this as a truly special vehicle. Prices aren’t too high, but I’ll have to deal with importing it to Mexico. Still, it’s more than worth the hassle to be able to drive such a unique BMW and the only clown shoe in the country. Interior HAS to be colored.
Also, the purple glovebox is a MUST in that Jag, I love it too much.

My time will come. The Alfa Romeo 159 TI 3.2 JTS V6 Q4 is a car I desperately want to own.
Just look at it

This post is absolutely amazing.
There are several, but most are quickly discarded, GT3 RS 4.0, E39 M5, E46 CSL, E46 M3, R34 GTR, Rx7, Supra TT those are all discarded because by the time I can get them (either because of money or importing rules) I know they will be so appreciated in value I’d be too rational to overpay so much.
Honestly, it may be a predictable or boring answer but, F-Type R (maybe even AWD).
Though I might change it for an SVR if it’s worthy.
There is one caveat, if I can ONLY afford to get my father his dream car and have to postpone or sacrifice the F-Type, I will.
To get him an aluminum XJ Vanden Plas.

I don’t have one. Is that weird for someone here?
That said, there are cars I’d buy if/when I had the money and a place for them. The top one I can think of on my list would be a Tesla Roadster, which would be very interesting to me around the time they become pariahs needing replacement batteries (probably for the second time). I’d lovingly build a new battery pack and replace any broken electronics with new hardware/software (because I could). They’re so simple that it should be almost as easy for me as maintaining an old car with a carburetor is for most mechanics.
Mmmm...

I have 2 cars I want in my garage no matter what. A 1977 Pontiac Trans Am Bandit. I need this in my life. it was my first dream car and I love Burt, so it is a must.
The second is a 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series. After watching Clarkson drive this car and how capable is seemed driving in town and out on the twisties. This seems like the perfect get out of town, early morning drive car. I just want it. Thanks to depreciation, it may very well be in my future 5 years from now.

One of these three. Or all. Forbidden fruit is the most tempting, and the French tend to do it best. Never mind that most of them were a bit ambitious, but generally rubbish.
